James Michael Tobin

James Michael "Tobe' " Tobin, 64, passed away Friday, October 12, 2012 in Norman, Oklahoma. 

He was born Tuesday, November 11, 1947 in Maryville, Missouri to Thomas James Tobin and Delores "Meyer" Tobin .  He was united in marriage on November 8, 1969 to Patricia Smith in Atchison, Kansas.

After graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1978, James was self employed as a land man in the oil and gas industry for a total of 17 years.  In 1999, he retired from the United States Post Office in Norman  after 19 years of service and later returned to the oil and gas business.  He enjoyed his landman work and mentored many.  James enjoyed golfing with his brothers, camping with the family on the family farm and watching Turner Classic movies.  James loved attending sporting events, his favorites were OU Football, OU Women's basketball and OKC Thunder.  He enjoyed watching the kids play sports, especially Mike, Casey and Sandy.

James is survived by his wife, Patricia Tobin of the home; one son, Casey Tobin of Norman; one daughter, Sandy Tobin of Norman; two brothers, Tommy Tobin and wife Cheryl of Fort Collins, Colorado and Pete Tobin of Overland Park, Kansas; eight sisters, Julie Bartlett of Orlando, Florida, Debbie Peterson and husband Bill of Kansas City, Kansas, Patty Jo Jackson and husband Don of Mesa, Arizona, Mary Bemis and husband Jeff of Teresa, Wisconsin, Chrissy Kalcic and husband Russ of Omaha, Nebraska, Beverly Stone and husband Larry of Tonganoxi, Kansas, Cindy Stahura and husband Pete of Arizona and Suzi Tobin of Kansas City, Missouri; Uncle Ronnie and Aunt Doris Meyer of Gladstone, Missouri, Aunt Sharon Tobin of Blue Springs, Missouri and Aunt Sister Bettina Tobin, OSB of Atchison, Kansas; 6 grandchildren, James Michael Tobin III of Richardson, Texas, Andrew Tobin, Anna Tobin, Owen Gething, Bonnie Segura, Topher Smallwood all of Norman; and a host of additional family members and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and son, James Michael Tobin, II.

Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St., Norman.  Rosary services will be held 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Havenbrook Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 3939 W. Tecumseh, Norman, Oklahoma.  Arrangements for James and his family have been placed in the care of the Vice Family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
