Funeral services for Benajmin C. Williams, 91, Purcell were held July 27, 2005 at Little Chapel of Roses in Oklahoma City with the Rev. Paul Jones officiating. Interment was at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home in Blanchard.
Mr. Williams died July 25, 2005.
He was born Jan. 8, 1914 in Johnson County, Okla., the son of Ida (John) and John A. Williams. He was a member of the Chickasaw tribe.
Mr. Williams served during World War II in the U.S. Army from Aug. 3, 1942 to Nov. 28, 1945 in Florence, Italy as a medic. He was lost at sea for three days and survived on a raft.
He was awarded four Bronze Stars for Heroic or Meritorious Achievement against Opposing Armed Force, one Theatre Ribbon for Active Combat Against Enemy, awarded by the commanding general of corps and a Victory Ribbon for Victory and End of War New Day of Peace and Freedom Defeat of Enemy.
Mr. Williams married Floria Mae Horner in 1947 in Johnston County. They lived in Oklahoma City, then moved to Blanchard.
He retired in 1970 from Overhead Door after 19 years of service. After retiring, he became a full-time farmer and drove a school bus for Bridge Creek Schools. He was a member of the Blanchard VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Flora Mae Williams Jan. 30, 2000; a daughter, Ella Joy Noland; a son, James Cowan; two brothers, Chapman Williams and Frank Williams and two sisters, Ella Kellar and Thelma Bone.
Survivors include two sons, Everett Harris and his wife, Helen, and Ed Harris and his wife, Bertha, all of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Ted Williams and his wife, of Wheatland and Gene Williams and his wife, Leotta, of Allen and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
