Mabel B. Brooks, age 89 of Newcastle, passed away April 3, 2015 in Norman. Because of her faith and love in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, she has now happily gone home to spend eternity with Him.

Mabel was born July 24, 1925 in Horatio, Arkansas the youngest of three children born to James Luther Gray and Pearlie Mattie Kathryn (Cox) Gray. She grew up in Horatio where she graduated from Horatio High School in 1941. After high school she attended Elliott Business College for one year. On November 12, 1944, in Houston, Texas, Mabel married the love of her life, Johnnie W. Brooks. They were married for 56 years before he passed away in 2000. Mabel and Johnnie were blessed with three children, Janet, Sharon and David. They moved to Newcastle in 1976 and became faithful members of the Newcastle First Baptist Church. Prior to moving to Newcastle, Mabel found joy in teaching Sunday School in Southern Baptist Churches for 63 years. She was an active choir member most of her adult life, and served on various committees. For 30 years she was a volunteer at Southwest Medical Center in South Oklahoma City. To help her relax, she enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and close friends. Because of her faith in Christ, she never failed to ask the people she met if they knew the Lord. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a special sister, aunt and dear friend to all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by: Parents, James and Pearlie Gray; Husband, Johnnie Brooks; Son-In-Law, Calvin Aday;

She is survived by: 3 Children: Janet Gael Rohde & husband Paul of Newcastle, Sharon Kay Aday of Newcastle, David Brooks & wife Letitia of Washington; 6 Grandchildren: John, Kyle, Sarah, Bryan, Corey & Leanne; 9 Great Grandchildren: Paul, Erin, Joanna, Ethan, Liam, Kelsey, Wesley, Huxley & Stella; Also many other loving relatives and friends.

The family will have a visitation with friends from 6-8 pm on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle. A private family burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in OKC. Mabel’s Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Newcastle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the “Living The Vision Fund” c/o Newcastle First Baptist Church, 1650 N. Main, Newcastle, OK. 73065.
