Bobby G. Roberson, a successful entrepreneur and longtime resident of Oklahoma City, passed away on September 25, 2012.   He was 81. 

Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Millie Prince Roberson; son, Shannon Roberson; son-in-law and daughter, Tom and Lisa Russell; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Bobby was born on May 31, 1931 to O. A. and Lula Roberson in Wichita Falls, Texas.  He moved to Oklahoma City at a young age.  He was a champion amateur boxer in his teens, fighting in his first Golden Gloves tournament in 1946 and winning Oklahoma City’s Outstanding Boxer Award in 1947.  A 1949 graduate of Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City, he married Irvena Faye Moon in 1952 at a small Church of Christ Church on Southwest 53rd and Blackwelder in Oklahoma City.

With encouragement from his wife and a $50 loan from his mother, he founded Southwest Typewriter Service in 1956.  He repaired and serviced typewriters out of his garage.  Through his leadership and mentoring, the family business has grown and transformed several times over, and today his legacy amounts to a national organization, employing over 500 people across the nation.

Bobby was a U.S. Marine and veteran of the Korean War.  He is a life-long member of the Church of Christ where he has been a teacher, deacon, and elder.  He was a member of the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club 29.

In 1982, Bobby became a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary Club 29.  The same year, he ran the Dallas White Rock Marathon at 51 years of age and remained an avid runner and fitness enthusiast through the rest of his life.

In 2005, Bobby re-dedicated himself to academic studies, earning a business degree from Kennedy-Western University and an honorary Doctorate of Laws from Oklahoma Christian University for his enthusiastic support of higher education.  University President Mike O’Neal conferred the honor with the highest of praise for Bobby’s contribution to his family, community and country.

Family requests that memorials be made to the Oklahoma Christian University, 2501 E. Memorial Road, Edmond, OK 73013.  Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 28, 2012 in the Scott Chapel at Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond, Oklahoma. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens of Oklahoma City.  Arrangements for Bobby and his family have been placed in the care of the Vice Family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
