Mildred “Lucille” Cossey Townsend Markwell was born on August 25, 1918 at Box, Oklahoma. She died December 31, 2015 in Oklahoma City at the age of 97.

Her parents were Joseph Harrison Cossey and Virgie Ellen Barber Cossey. Lucille graduated from Putman City High School in 1935 and also attended Blackwood Business College. She was a long time member of Putman City Christian Church. She was also a 51 year breast cancer survivor.

Preceding her in death were her parents; four siblings, Joe Cossey, Mary O’Donnell, Lester Cossey and Al Cossey; her first husband, Hud Townsend with whom she had two children; her second husband, Delbert Markwell; grandson, Stevan Gandy; and granddaughter, Lauren Townsend.

With Hud she loved the life of a career Air force wife, living in Maine, California, New Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Altus, OK as well as Oklahoma City. With Delbert, she loved traveling and spending time at their cabin in Colorado.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Charles Abbott of Yukon, OK; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Sue Townsend of Centennial, CO; Delbert’s children, Gary Markwell, daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Chris Hughes, daughter and son-in-law, Marketa Kelley and Johnny Alston, all of Oklahoma City; sister, Viola Rogers of Wagoner, OK; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and several cousins.

Visitation will be from 9 AM to 9 PM on Monday, January 4th at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service in Bethany, OK. Funeral services will be at Mercer-Adams Chapel on Tuesday, January 5th at 2:00pm with her nephew, Terry Cossey officiating.

Interment will follow in Resthaven Cemetery at S. W. 104th St. and Western Ave. in Oklahoma City.

Memorials in Lucille’s name are suggested to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research.
