Funeral services for John Butler Ryan, Jr., age 57, of Oklahoma City will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, December 18, 2010 in The Chapel of the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman with Father Alan Sutherland officiating.

John was born June 15, 1953 in Oklahoma City the son of John Butler and Doris Jean (Taylor) Ryan, Sr.  He passed away Tuesday evening, December 14, 2010 at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
John attended schools in Oklahoma City, graduating from Putnam City High School in 1970.  He later completed an Associates Degree in Computer Science from Francis Tuttle Technology Center of Oklahoma City.  He began  a career with Kimray on October 3, 1977, working in various positions, recently working in the Network Support Personnel department.  John was still employed with Kimray at the time of his death.

John had an irreverent sense of humor, and could always make you smile.  He had a fascination with Outer Space and enjoyed reading and researching UFO theories.  He was a former Scout Master Leader and was a participant in MUFON, an outer space membership group.
No other pass-time brought him more joy and pride, however, than his children and grandchildren.  He loved spending time with his family telling stories, cracking jokes and just making them laugh.  John was a dedicated and awesome family man!

Survivors include his mother, Doris Hillhouse of Norman, OK; two sons; John Butler Ryan, III and Jerry Ryan, both of Colorado; two daughters; Kena Ryan and her partner, Kevin Black, of Tulsa, OK and Regina Parker and her husband, Jason, of Oklahoma City; one brother; Michael Ryan and his wife, Irmi of San Diego, CA; two sisters; Celia Ryan Bastis and her husband, David of Austin, TX and Alicia Ryan Maisano and her husband, Jim of Norman, OK; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. John Ryan, Sr. in 1975.

A private committal will conclude in the I.O.O.F Cemetery in Norman under the direction of the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
