Mrs. Imogene Eliza Meyer, age 95, of Norman passed away two days before her 96th birthday on Tuesday evening, September 6, 2011 at the Rivermont Gardens Assisted Living in Norman.

She was born September 8, 1915 in Martha, Oklahoma (Jackson County) the daughter of Rufus H. and Effie (Moore) Miller.  Imogene moved with her family to Norman when she was just nine years old, attending Norman Public Schools, graduating from Norman High School on June 1, 1934.  She  became the bride of Mr. William Edward Meyer later that same day in Norman.
They made their home in Norman, later welcoming their daughter, Janet Meyer, on September 16, 1935.
Imogene was an outstanding mother and wife, caring and nurturing her family with tenderness and care.  She loved music and often hosted “jam sessions” at her home, featuring the talents of the fiddle, guitar, piano, and many other instruments.  Imogene enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and would find any opportunity she could to bring people together for food and fellowship.  She also enjoyed gardening, caring for her yard and growing beautiful flowers.  Later in life, Imogene developed a fondness for golf.  Because of her eye for beautiful landscape, she also enjoyed the awesome view of the professional golf courses and it's colorful background for flowers and trees.
Like so many of her generation, Imogene was a very conservative lady, known for her responsible nature in making wise decisions.  In 1971 Imogene welcomed a beautiful granddaughter, Susan McGee, who quickly became the apple of her eye.  Imogene and Susan developed a very close relationship that continued through out Imogene's life.  Imogene was very proud of the fact that her, her daughter, Janet and her granddaughter, Susan all graduated from Norman High School.
Imogene was a member of the McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, the Silver Spur Square Dance Club and the Air Streams Travel Club.
Imogene had been a resident of the Rivermont Gardens Assisted Living since 2006 and her family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the assisted living staff for their five years of loving care and attention.  Imogene will forever live in the hearts and minds of so many people whose lives she touched over the years.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet McGee of Norman; her granddaughter, Susan (McGee) Oden and her husband, Tim of Oklahoma City; and two great grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Edward Meyer on May 20, 1987; her son-in-law, Delbert McGee on December 9, 2002; and her four sisters; Pauline Ross, Ruby Fox, Mae Walters and Cleo Dixon.
