Harriet Marie (Giroux) Meyer

Harriet Marie Giroux Meyer, 88, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014 in Norman.

She was an intelligent, thoughtful and patient person. Harriet was born January 19, 1925 in Tracy, Minnesota to Edward Xavier and Clara Allen (Brady) Giroux. She was united in marriage to Victor D. Meyer on November 12, 1948 in Oklahoma City, OK. They had a loving and caring marriage for 65 years.

Harriet received her Registered Nursing degree from St. Antony’s School of Nursing in Oklahoma City, OK. She worked as a surgical nurse at McBride’s Bone and Joint Clinic, Oklahoma City; the Stillwater Municipal Hospital; and the University of Oklahoma Infirmary.

She was an accomplished pastel artist and master flower arranger. She was a longtime member of the Norman Garden Council, Ragged Robin Chapter, and became an accredited judge for the National Council of Garden Clubs.

She is survived by her husband, Victor; two daughters and their spouses, Susan and Dennis Yarbro, Roland, AR and Roxana Leonard and Joe Lozano, Norman, OK.; grandsons, Josh and Mitchell Leonard; and a sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Preston Wilson, Stillwater, OK. 

Harriet was preceded in death by a son, Stephen, in 1955; a brother, Anthony Giroux; and two sisters, Theresa and Rita.

Arrangements for Harriet and her family were placed in the care of the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
