Legendary son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and All-American football player, Edward “Eddie” Jay Foster, was welcomed into heaven, Friday, May 15, 2015.

Ed was born June 20, 1951 in Waurika, Oklahoma as the oldest of three children. Growing up, Eddie listened to Friday night football on the radio with his dad. One night, he set his mind to become the best player from his hometown of Monahans, Texas. That determination, along with hard work, led him from his dusty high school football field to the bright lights of the University of Oklahoma, where he became captain of OU’s 1973 undefeated Big Eight Championship team. As the only Texan to be selected as All-State in four different positions in two years, his tremendous efforts led to his being inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame in 2013. Following his graduation from OU, Ed married his high school sweetheart, Kim Watson. Ed had a successful career in the World Football League and Canadian Football League before settling in Norman, Oklahoma, where he raised his family and established a lifelong career in specialty insurance as a business owner and chartered life underwriter. Ed and Kim made quite a team as they added five more Fosters to the family: Neal, Charles, Dow, John, and Gillian. As a pillar of Norman youth sports and of the Oklahoma homeschool community, Ed coached young athletes for over 30 years. A voracious reader, Ed read several books a week. He especially enjoyed spy novels and the book, Wild At Heart. Through his involvement with church, Ed touched lives by teaching Sunday school, serving on ministry teams, and taking mission trips with his wife. In every area of his life, Ed encouraged others with his strength, gentleness, wisdom, and wit. He lived out his favorite scripture: “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8. Ed’s family invites you to celebrate his life at 1 pm Thursday, May 21, at LifeChurch.tv in Moore, Oklahoma. From 12pm-1pm Thursday before the service begins, the casket will be open for those who are unable to pay their respects during visitation on Wednesday from 8am-8pm at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Kim Watson Foster; sons, Neal Foster and wife Mary, Charles Foster and wife Rebecca, Dow Foster and wife Misti, and John Foster and wife Rachel; daughter, Gillian Foster and fiancé Christopher Wilkinson; brother, Jerry Allan Foster and wife Kathy; eight grandchildren; and fourteen nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Myra Foster; sister, Becky Beene; and two unborn children.
