Ruth Fielden, 98, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in Norman.  Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at First Christian Church in Norman with interment following at I.O.O.F in Norman.

Ruth was born April 8, 1914 to Maggie (McGinn) and Mitchell B. Meek in Ft. Cobb Oklahoma.  Ruth grew up on the family dairy farm in Ft. Cobb and earned her teaching certificate at Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha.  She began her teaching career in rural Oklahoma in a one room school house where she taught grades one through twelve.  She married Robert E “Bob” Fielden on December 30, 1938. They spent the first eight of their 56 years of marriage in Chandlerville, Illinois, returning to Norman in 1946.  Ruth taught pre-kindergarten for the University of Oklahoma in Norman at Sooner City Nursery until the school closed in the early 1970s.  She continued her teaching career at Cochran’s Music School until she was 90 years old.  Ruth had a special connection with children and a love for helping them learn.  Ruth was a long time member of First Christian Church and Eastern Star in Norman.  She was active in a County Extension group and earned many blue ribbons at the county fair for her baked cookies.

She was preceded in death by her parents Maggie and Mitchell Meek; husband Robert E. Fielden; son Robert D. Fielden; one sister and three brothers. 

Ruth is survived by her son Fred M. Fielden and wife Anita; granddaughter Michelle Sutherlin and husband Brad and great-grandsons Ryan and Will Sutherlin, all of Norman.  She is also survived by  grandson Mike Fielden and wife Pat of Norman; great granddaughters Jessica Rowe and Ryan Yandell of Norman along with five great-great grandchildren;  granddaughter Kim Skaggs of Austin and great-granddaughter Katie Underwood of Norman. 

Arrangements for Ruth and her family were placed in the care of the Vice Family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
