Effie Mae Davis was born in 1924 to Bob and Maudie “Wade” Bookout in McClain County near Cole, OK.  She was raised around Woody Chapel.  She attended the old Fox School and also Washington, OK schools. 

She married Marvin Lester in 1944.  They were married 18 years and had five daughters.  They owned the Woody Chapel Store-Café and Station several years.  After that, she worked several years for OU food service, then retired from Safeway grocery stores on West Lindsay St. after 21 ˝ years of service. 

Effie was baptized in Union Hill Church.  Now a member of Emmanuel Baptist. 
She married Billy S. Davis in 1969.  He had 4 children.  They had one daughter together.  After retiring, Effie worked part time for B&B Country Store then spent ten happy years working for Sodexo in the Norman School cafeteria at Washington Elementary in Norman. 

Billy preceded her in death in 2000.  Also preceding her was one stepdaughter, Connie Harrell; one grandson, Timmy Harrell; her parents; 3 brothers, Willie Bookout, Willard Bookout, and Wilburn Bookout; one sister, Opal Faye Bookout. 

Survivors include daughters, Jeane Hardy of Norman, Glenda Short of TN, “Marcy” Bishop of Norman, “Tissie” McClure and her husband Scott of Midwest City, OK, “Casey” Hoffhines and husband Mark of Norman, Tammi Hecimovich and husband Tom of Norman, Phyllis Johnson and husband Jeff of Moore; sons Bobby D. Davis and wife Judy of Boise, ID, Rodger Davis of Norman; one brother David Bookout of Cole; one sister-in-law, Lagatha Bookout of OKC; 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; also nieces and nephews who will miss her. 

Effie loved fishing, reading, and baking, also making P’nut patties and fudge for her large family and many friends. 

Visitation will be 8:00am-8:00pm Thursday with family receiving friends from 5-7pm at Havenbrook Funeral Home.  Services to celebrate her life will be 2:00 pm Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Chapel of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
