Carl “C.R.” Cantrell, Jr., 73, died on December 25, 2010 in Norman, OK.  He passed away suddenly after spending the Christmas holiday with family.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He was born on November 27, 1937 in Ada, OK to the late Carlton Ray and Daisy Cantrell.  After graduating from Ada High School in 1955, C.R. went on to college at East Central University in Ada.  He graduated from the university in 1959.  That same year he married his hometown sweetheart, Ellen Loman.

In 1959, the couple moved to Oklahoma City where C.R. began his long career with OG&E.  In 1965, they moved to Norman where C.R. and Ellen raised their two children, Mark and Rhonda.  He was the Manager of Accounting and then the Auditor of AdValorem Tax.  After his retirement in 1994, C.R. served as a consultant to OG&E for several years.

Hunting, fishing, and golf were some of C.R.'s favorite hobbies.  He and his wife enjoyed spending time attending their grandchildren's sporting events and activities.  He was supportive of all of their endeavors.  He was his grandchildren's biggest fan.

Many memories are cherished among the grandchildren of Grandpa “Paw Paw”.  There were no rules when their grandpa was in charge - - no bedtime was set and plenty of ice cream to eat day or night.  C.R. was a wonderful grandfather, mentor and friend to his four grandchildren.

C.R. is survived by his wife, Ellen; his son and his wife, Mark and Kelli; his daughter and her husband, Rhonda and Terry Cothran; and his grandchildren, Kevin and Austin Cantrell and Spencer and Sarah Cothran.

Memorials may be made to the Southwestern Oklahoma State University baseball program, 100 Campus Dr., Weatherford, OK 73096, Attn:  Scott Selby or to the American Heart Association, 5700 N. Portland Ave., Suite 203, OKC, OK 73112.

Services will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Chapel of Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St., Norman, OK under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
