Carl Owen Cabbiness passed away Friday, October 8, 2010 at his home.  He was born June 12, 1940 in Carnegie, Oklahoma to Jack and Reba Cabbiness.  Carl was one of seven children.  He spent his childhood in Anadarko, Oklahoma.   After graduating from Anadarko High School in 1958, Carl attended Cameron College in Lawton, OK where he played basketball.  He played in the National Junior College Tournament for 2 years finishing third in 1960.  He accepted a basketball scholarship to The Colorado College in Colorado Spring, Colorado.  Carl graduated from Colorado College in 1964.

While working in California he met and married Sue Bousman of Yorktown, Indiana.  They were blessed with two sons, Carl Owen II and Christopher Cabbiness.

Carl and Sue moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he worked with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma.  He retired after 32 years as Vice President Oklahoma City Operations.  Carl and Sue were members of First Christian Church in Tulsa. 

After his retirement he and Sue moved to Norman, Oklahoma where they attended McFarlin United  Methodist Church.  In their years of retirement Carl and Sue loved to travel, especially travel that involved staying in bed and breakfasts.  Carl was an avid follower of Oklahoma University Athletics.  He loved the outdoors and woodworking.  Spending time working on his property, lawn, flower beds and tinkering on his antique tractors took up his days.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Cabbiness and Reba Adams, one brother,
Ty Cabbiness and one sister, Paula Seals.  Carl lost the love of his life, his wife Sue, in September of 2008.

He is survived by his son Carl Owen II, and his children, Callie, Trey, Cale and Cason all of Norman, OK., and son Christopher and his wife Nikki and their children, Cade and Caton of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Brothers, Guy Cabbiness of Tulsa, J.R.  and wife Lavone Cabbiness of Norman;  Sister Jo Ann Eaton of Anadarko and Gala and husband Larry Griffith of Anadarko; Brothers in law, Larry Bousman of Pahrump, Nevada, Bill Bousman and wife Sue of Albany, Indiana and Sister in law Debbie Haddock of Albany, Indiana.   Many loving nieces and nephews and so many good friends.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel, 3401 Havenbrook Street with Rev. Cal Brannon officiating.  The family will greet friends at the Havenbrook Funeral Home from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 12, 2010 with visitation remaining available until 8:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oklahoma Research Foundation (cancer research) at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, OK or McFarlin Methodist Church in Norman, Oklahoma.

Burial will conclude at I.O.O.F. Cemetery of Norman, OK under the direction of the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, OK
