Richard Everett “Dick” Dunford, 76, of Norman passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 1, 2014.  He was born December 13, 1937 in Oklahoma City to Virgil and Leta Mae Dunford.

Dick grew up in Norman and received his education at Norman High School.  In 1955, he enlisted in the Air National Guard.  On June 22, 1957, he married the love of his life, Judith Rebecca May.  In 1958, he transferred to the Army where he served 31 years, retiring as a Lt. Colonial.  Dick and Becky had three children, Corey, David and Elizabeth.

After retiring from the Army, he was a soil conservation contractor.  Dick was an avid fast pitch softball player.  In 1974, he was the first MVP for the State of Oklahoma.  In 2004, he was inducted in the Oklahoma Softball Hall of Fame.  He enjoyed bowling with David and bowling leagues and tournaments with Elizabeth, earning three perfect games.  Being an avid bass fisherman, he attended many tournaments with his son Corey.  Dick loved his family, especially his grandchildren.  From softball to bowling to dominoes, he acquired many friendships.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, numerous aunts and uncles and one grandson, David Dunford, Jr. 

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Becky Dunford; his children, R. Corey Dunford and wife Jennifer of Norman, David Dunford of Mustang, and Elizabeth Moore and husband Matthew of Olney, Texas; his six grandchildren, Danielle Farricker, Dustin Dunford, Emily Dunford, Austin Graves, Dylan Dunford and Tatum Moore; his three sisters, Gloria Grinde of Park River, North Dakota, Betty Costin of Mineola, Texas, and Leta Marie Bennison of Lafayette, Indiana; one brother, William Dunford of Norman; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family will be present to receive friends from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. during visitation. Visitation for Dick will be from 12 p.m. – 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, 2014. 

Funeral Services will begin at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014 officiated by Pastor John Stokes at the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman with interment following at Noble I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Noble.
