Martha Olivia (Haynes) (Whitten) O'Gwin

Martha Olivia O’Gwin, 87, of Norman, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016, peacefully at home. She was born on November 6, 1928 in Amarillo, Texas to Frank Taylor Haynes and Maddie (Shipman) Haynes.

The family moved around but finally settled in Norman, Oklahoma in 1937. She graduated from Norman High School in 1946 and started working at Woolworth’s.

On April 14, 1948, Martha married Harold Gene Whitten. Together they had two children, Sandy in 1951 and Keith in 1954. Harold was killed in a boating accident on July 11, 1964.

On September 6, 1969, Martha married James Max O’Gwin and they were married until his death in 2006.

For 26 years, Martha provided daycare to 149 children who lovingly referred to her as “Grandma Martha.”

Martha was blessed with six grandchildren, David, Keenan, Clayton, Julie, Olivia, and Joseph; and three great grandchildren, Hailey, Joe Dale, and Cody.

Martha was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandy; brothers Bernard, J.W., and Bobby; sisters Lois and Laura, as well as both husbands Harold and Max.

She had been a member of Westside Church of Christ since 1966.

Visitation will be 5-8pm Wednesday April 13, 2016 at Havenbrook Funeral Home. Services to celebrate her life are 11:00am Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Chapel of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
