Mr. Tilson died peacefully in his sleep Aug. 26, 2005 at his home.
He was born Nov. 30, 1930 in Matador, Texas, the sixth of seven children of Thomas Granville and Stella Eugenia Butterfield Tilson. He was reared in Matador where he worked on the family farm and attended school.
Following school, he joined the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country for 20 years. He served during Vietnam and the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Tilson married Wanda June Burks and together they were blessed with a wonderful family. Mrs. Tilson passed away Aug. 4, 1991.
Following his retirement from the Navy, Mr. Tilson worked as a contractor for the Oklahoma Correctional Facility east of Lexington and then as a school bus driver for the Lexington School District for many years, retiring in 1994.
In his younger years he enjoyed riding horses and as he got older he enjoyed woodworking, reading, watching television and supporting the Lexington Bulldogs sporting events. Most of all he enjoyed telling stories about his service time in the military and his childhood.
Mr. Tilson will be remembered as a loving dad, granddad and a good friend to many. We will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Stella Tilson; his wife, Wanda June Tilson and four brothers, Tom, Rayworth, W.R. and Warren Earl.
