Funeral services for Gary Chappell will be held Saturday, November 19, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Chapel in Hugo, OK with Brent Coffey and Bob Childers officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencerville Cemetery, in Spencerville, OK. Gary passed away November 17, 2011, at the age of 81 in Idabel, OK.
Gary was born July 31, 1930, in Spencerville, Oklahoma. He was the son of Almus and Ila (Harris) Chappell. He had lived in this area all of his life and was a member of the Spencerville Community Church. He married Bettie M. Lang on March 8, 1960, in Hugo, OK. Gary was a logger, rancher, raised black-angus cattle, and enjoyed baling round bales of hay. He loved being with his family and friends. Gary also enjoyed hunting and was fondly known as the “cow catcher” back in his youth. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Curtis Chappell and one sister, Betty Jo Lanier.
He is survived by his wife Bettie of the home; one daughter, Darlene Chappell of Spencerville, OK; one son, Len Chappell; three sisters, Mary Lunbland and husband Von of Olympia, WA, Pat Stout and husband Gerald and Sue Davenport and husband Johnny all of Tyler, TX; one brother, Leon Chappell and wife Kathy of Antlers, OK; three granddaughters, Tiffany Malakowsky and husband Joe, Marty Chappell and Danille Chappell and one great-granddaughter, Harley Malakowsky
Family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends are also invited to sign the guest book or send private condolences to the family at www.praterlampton.com.
