Doyle Leonard "D. L." Dancer

Funeral services for D.L. Dancer will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Boswell, OK, with Rev. Larry Stevenson and Rev. Floyd Leverton officiating and burial following at Restland Cemetery. D.L. passed from this life on Saturday, July 16, 2011, in Bonham, TX.
D.L. Dancer was born June 8, 1930, in Boswell, OK, the son of Harmon and Bertha (Fisher) Dancer. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, beginning in 1950 with the 82nd Airborne Division, and then becoming Green Beret with the Special Forces, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major in 1971. D.L. logged over 4,000 parachute jumps during his career, 80 being combat jumps. He married Frankie (Young) LaRue on June 13, 1975, in Paris, TX. D.L. was a member of the Powderly Baptist Church, formerly serving as a deacon with the Boswell Baptist Church. He loved to fish and work in his wood shop. D.L. was endearingly known as the “Lawnmower Man.” He was a great father who truly loved his family, actively attending the annual Dancer Family Reunions.
D.L. was preceded in death by his parents, eight sisters, Merle Johnson, Lessie Gill, Estelle Campbell, Sylvia Davis, Goldie Krause, Betty Barker, Dorothy Wilson and Joann Elmore; two brothers, W.S. Dancer, Dan Dancer; granddaughters, Joie Ritchie and Christina LaRue; father-in-law, John Young.
D.L. is survived by his best friend and wife, Frankie Dancer; two daughters, Shelia Ritchey and husband Raymond of Atkins, TX, and Diane Shreiber and husband Donnie, of Mesquite, TX; two sons, Doyle Dancer, Jr. of San Antonio, TX and Steven Dancer and wife Jen of Williamsville, IL; four step children he loved and raised as his own: three sons, Clay LaRue and wife Betty of Paris, TX, Tracy LaRue of Powderly, TX, and Todd LaRue of Bonham, TX; one daughter Cathy Wilkerson and husband Wayne of Sumner, TX; two sisters, Prebble Tucker and husband Buddy of Kingswood, TX, and Wilmoth Schushler of Unger, OK; mother-in-law, Norean Young; twenty-one grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday June 19, 2011, between 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel. Family and friends are invited to sign the guest book or send private condolences to the family at www.praterlampton.com
