James Ray Armstrong

Graveside services for James Ray Armstrong, fondly known as "Grandpa", will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at 2:00 PM at the Restland Cemetery in Boswell, OK, with Pastor Larry Minchey officiating and burial following in the Restland Cemetery.

James passed away peacefully at his home with his family present on Thursday, August 9, 2012, at the age of 84. James was born February 11, 1928 on the 12 mile Prairie in Bryan County, OK, the son of W.G. Armstrong and Oleta (Snelgrove) Armstrong. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as part of the 6 Combat Engineers. James has lived in Choctaw County since 1961 and worked construction all his life. He met his wife, Rosie Carroll, while working construction in Dewey, OK in 1948 and she chased him all the way to DeQueen, AR where they married on June 3, 1948. Locally, James was the Chief Construction Inspector for the Choctaw Nation for twenty years before his retirement. James was a member of the American Legion, Masons, and was of the Baptist faith. James was a good husband, wonderful father, a loving grandpa, and he will be missed by all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosalie “Rosie”¯ Armstrong; son, James R. Armstrong Jr., sister, Nadine Morgan and one grandchild, James Paul.

James is survived by two daughters, Karen Titsworth of Soper, OK, Sandra Reid of OKC, OK; brother, Don Armstrong of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Benny G., Karen Sue, Jennifer., Melissa, Donnie, and Christopher; ten great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 11, 2012, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home in Hugo, OK.
