Funeral services for A. J. Raper will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in the 4th & Jackson Church of Christ in Hugo, OK, with Steve Harbison officiating and burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A.J. passed away Saturday, October 24, 2015, in Hugo, Oklahoma, at the age of 74.

Arvel Jarrett Raper was born August 11, 1941, in Maud, Oklahoma, to Arvel Dennis and Edith Estelle (Jarrett) Raper. He married Alice Shirley on February 9, 1973, in Hugo, OK. A.J. was self-employed as a rancher and a mechanic. He loved to raise cattle, coon hunt, and watch the Rangers and OU football games. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and being outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvel and Edith Raper; sister, Barbara Lee Campbell; brother-in law, George Benge.

A.J. is survived by his wife Alice of the home; children, Robert Raper and wife Sandy of Pheonix, AZ, Roger Raper and wife, Fieriel of Hugo, OK, Rhonda McCarter and husband, Jeff of Hugo, OK; brother, Richard Raper of Hugo, OK; sister, Donna Benge Lovington, NM and brother-in-law, Marvin Campbell of Lovington, NM; grandchildren, Courtney, Peyton and Luke Raper, Kelsey and Corey James, Kameron Raper, Olivia and Payne McCarter; great-grandchild, Christian James; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.
