Melton Andrew “Mel” Alvey was born July 18, 1950, in San Francisco, CA the son of James Melton Alvey and Virginia Ruth (McClanahan) Alvey who was known as “Tincy”. At the age of 19, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp and after serving 4 years, he received the medal of good conduct and an honorable discharge. Shortly after the service, he moved to Washington where he opened two bars and met his first wife, Linda Woodward. Mel later moved to California where he began working as a butcher and opened a retail martial arts supply store called the Black Dragon. Mel continued training in several areas of martial arts, receiving many black belts and a 3rd degree black belt in Aikido. After ten years of marriage ended painfully in divorce, he was given another chance at love when he met his second wife, Desiree Michelle Coleman of Pacific Grove, CA in 1990. Mel soon after opened two retail stores, Peninsula Police Supply and re-established the Black Dragon store along with two dojo studios, receiving several certificates of appreciation from surrounding police agencies. Mel also taught at the Police Academy, tactical defense and woman’s model mugging. In 2005, he closed his businesses and his wife’s business Timeless Treasures, an antiques and collections store. Together they moved to Ft. Towson, OK to care for his mother that had become very ill and had no one to care for her. They took care of his mother for ten years until her death, and then shortly after Mel became very ill himself and after a long hard struggle to stay here with us, he died at Choctaw Memorial Hospital.

Mel is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Desiree Michelle Coleman; many family members including his brother, Clay Alvey of Fort, Towson, OK; one sister, Cathy; one son, Jason Alvey and daughter, Jessica Doherty Woods of Kentucky; one daughter, Christy Ellen Alvey; a “brother from another mother” Keith Reese and his loving niece Desiree Reese; nephew, Colman Reese; half- brother, Jim Alvey of Oakland, CA; nephews, Ian Alvey, Johnny Armstrong of Hugo, OK; niece, Marina Davis of Ft.
