TAHLEQUAH – Services for Louise Smith, age 88, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. in the Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah, with Lloyd Coppedge officiating. Interment will be held at Tahlequah City Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers for Louise include Seth Bagby, Robbie Bagby, J.B. Alberty, Brian Jarrell, Mike Jarrell, and Jim Bagby.

Louise Smith was born on Feb. 17, 1920, the daughter of Alfred “Jake” and Nell (Jones) Cagle, in Baron. She graduated from Westville High School in 1939, the first class to graduate from the then-new building. On April 18, 1941, she became the bride of Jack Smith in the chapel at Baron. This union was blessed with one daughter. They moved to Tahlequah in 1944. Louise was active in her community and served on the election board. Among her favorite pastimes were gardening, sewing, going to music parties and dances, and playing pitch. She enjoyed walking, and participated in walk-a-thons for the Heart Fund. She was a member of the South College Church of Christ. She loved her family dearly, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandkids. She will be deeply missed.

Louise Smith passed from this life on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at the age of 88.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; her sisters, Mary Cagle, Margaret Wilkie and Maudean Bagby-Hubbard; and her son-in-law, Jim Alberty.She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jacqueline “Jackie” Alberty, of Tahlequah; her grandchildren, Janna Lynn Jarrell and husband, Mike, of McAlester, James Robert “J.B.” Alberty and wife, Teri, of Pueblo West, Colo.; her great-grandchildren, Jessica Alberty and Danielle Alberty, both of Pueblo West, and Air Force Academy Cadet 1st Class Brian Jarrell, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her nephew, Jim Bagby and wife, Mary, of Baron; her nieces, Brenda Dorr of Wagoner, and Eufama “Fama” Ross and husband, Jack, of Vinita; as well as many other family members, friends, and loved ones.

Those wishing to send an expression of sympathy are asked to consider making a donation in Louise's name to either the South College Church of Christ Building Fund, 410 S. College Ave., Tahlequah, Okla., 74464, or Carter Hospice, 200 Harris Circle, Tahlequah, Okla., 74464.
