McAlester---Anne Hunt Brown Mays, of McAlester, died April 19, 2002 in McAlester at the age of 73, Anne was born to Dr Thomas and Dr. Catherine (Acklen) Brown in Toledo, Ohio; Anne married Dr. Jim E. Mays June 10, 1948, in Toledo, Ohio. She was a homemaker.

Anne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of McAlester, the DAR, Tri Delta sorority and a charter member of the Embroiders Guild of America. She was a volunteer at Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City and a Docent at the Oklahoma City Zoo.

Anne and Dr. Mays lived in Oklahoma City for 33 years before moving to Tahlequah, where they resided for eight years before moving to McAlester four and a half years ago.

Anne is survived by husband Jim Mays, M.D., of McAlester; son James E Mays III, M.D., of Oklahoma City; daughters Anne Sheets and husband Jack Sheets, D.D.S.., of McAlester, Carolyn Sutter and husband Rick of South Bend, Ind., Margaret Davis and husband Darrell of Oklahoma City; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; brother Dr. Thomas H. Brown Jr. of Toledo, Ohio; sisters Catherine Heffron of Naples, Fla. and Janet Smith of Oklahoma City.

Her parents preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or the charity of choice. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at the First Presbyterian Church in McAlester.

A memorial service will also be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Hahn Cook Street and Draper Funeral Home Chapel in Oklahoma City with interment in Rose Hill Burial Park, Oklahoma City.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.
