Tahlequah--Funeral services for Rev. Ray Dodd, 84, of Tahlequah, will be
held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 8, 2002 at the Reed-Culver Funeral Home with Rev.
Bobby Long officiating. Burial will follow at the Tahlequah City Cemetery,
under the direction of the Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Jimmy Dodd, Robert Dodd, Chris Dodd, Kevin Smith, Nick
Southerland and Justin Southerland. Honorary pallbearers include Police Chief
Norman Fisher and the Tahlequah Fire Department.
Ray Dodd was born Jan. 27, 1918 in Sequoyah County, the son of Charlie and
Lonie (Nottingham) Dodd and he passed from this life on Friday, April 5, 2002 in
Tulsa. Mr. Dodd moved to Cherokee County when he was a child and attended
school at Mt. Zion. Mr. Dodd was married to Dolly Marie Tennison, Nov. 30,
1936. Brother Dodd was ordained into the ministry of the Pentecostal Holiness
Church in 1939 and he ministered several area churches and the Hulbert Full
Gospel Church for 35 years. He was a member of Faith Chapel Church. He opened
Dodd's plumbing in 1953, and was an avid gardener. He was the crossing guard at
Greenwood Elementary for 23 years and all the children knew him as "granddad."
Mr. Dodd was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dolly; daughter,
Nadine; four sisters and three brothers.
He is survivors include two sons and their wives; Ray "Henry" (Jimmy) Dodd
of Tahlequah and Bob (Cubie) Dodd of Tahlequah; brother and his wife, Alvin
(Evelyn) Dodd of Porter; sisters, Thelma Johnson of Tahlequah, Leola Robison of
Tulsa and Pauline Dodd of Tahlequah. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 27
great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, along with many other
relatives, loved ones and friends.
