TAHLEQUAH — Monroe Carey age 52 passed this life on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 in Billings, Mont. He was born in Tahlequah, to his parents Charlie Carey and Ramona (Roach) Carey.

Monroe attended high school in Hulbert. He grew up in the Hulbert area, and has resided in Wagoner for the last 20 years.

Monroe was a well-known pole barn builder and would travel from different towns and states to do the work he enjoyed doing.

As pastimes, he enjoyed going horseback riding, hunting and camping with his family.

He found great joy playing with his grandchildren and being a typical jokester and taking care of his 13 horses.

Monroe was baptized in 2008 at Steeley Springs Church in Tahlequah.

Monroe was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ramona Carey.

He is survived by his wife of the home Karen; one son, Jason Carey of Wagoner; one daughter, Jennifer Davis of Tennessee; two brothers, Dennis Carey and Harold "Doc" Carey, both of Tahlequah; seven sistersm Patricia Karr and husband Robert of Hulbert, Ruth Reddin and husband Charles of Poteau, Roberta Carey of Tahlequah, Zella Mae Caldwell (Allen) of Welling, Lisa Couch of Hulbert, Dedra "Dee Dee" Dobson and husband Doug of Hulbert, and Elizabeth Poteet and husband Troy of Gore; and six beautiful grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 3.

Funeral services for Monroe will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Shipman Funeral Home Chapel, with Revs. Jack and Gary Carey officiating.

Burial will follow in the Cochran family cemetery in Hulbert.
