Enid News and Eagle (OK) - December 31, 2008

The funeral for Royce Pickens, 71, will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Woodford. The Rev. Fred Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Hickory Cemetery , Woodford. Arrangements at by Russworm Funeral Home, Enid .

He was born Jan. 18, 1937, in Springer to Everett and Jenny Pickens and died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at Northwest Speciality Hospital, Enid .

He attended Central High School, Milo, and has been a member of Woodford Mount Olive Baptist Church from an early age. He worked at Wilson Packing Co. prior to marrying Lu Ella.

He later moved to Portland, Ore., where he married Leona Johnson. He later moved to Enid where he became a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in 1987 and worked at Vance Air Force Base commissary.

Surviving are two sons, Bryan Pickens of Enid and Royce Jr. "Junior" of Ardmore; two daughters, Deborah Williams and Roslyn Datson of Ardmore; four sisters, Juanita West, Amanda Crawford, Betty Spencer, of Enid , and Mary Baxter of Albuquerque, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, two brothers and two sisters.
