Regina L. Gray was born October 29, 1918 in El Reno, Oklahoma, to Everett and Lillie (Cox) Hinricksen. She passed from this life on Monday, December 27, 2004, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 86 years, following a brief illness. She grew up in the Amber community and attended Amber School, graduating in 1935. She attended Oklahoma College for Women, now University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, at Chickasha. She then became a teacher in rural Grady County for two years. Regina married Orville W. Gray on October 1, 1940, in Anadarko. Orville served four years in the United States Air Force, and after his discharge they followed contruction, where Orville was a lineman for many years. They moved to Anadarko in 1953, when Orville went to work for Western Farmers Electric Cooperative. Regina later went to work for the United States Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1980.
She was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, a lifetime member of NARFE, and a member of the Anadarko Gun Club, where she served as secretary/treasurer for many years. She was an avid trapshooter and won many trophies. She also served as secretary of the Amber Alumni Association for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Alfred and Clifford Hinricksen, one nephew, Leland Hinricksen, and by her husband, Orville, on November 5, 1996, shortly after their 56th assiversary. Survivors include one nephew, LaMoyne Hinricksen and wife Mackie; one niece, Ellen Hinricksen; two great nephews and two great nieces, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; one goddaughter, Sissy Taylor, of Anadarko; and many loving friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 30, at Bethel Baptist Church, with Pastor Ray Weathers officiating. Burial will follow in Chickasha's Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Steverson Funeral Home. Viewing at the funeral home will be from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., Wednesday.
