George L Gorwyn
1848 - Mar 13, 1901
Posted by: Adam Lambert-Gorwy

From the El Reno Democrat on 14 March 1901:

G.L. Gorwyn, one of the pioneer settlers of this town, died last evening about 7 o’clock at his home on Capitol Hill.

Mr. Gorwyn had been in failing health for some time, but was not taken seriously ill until the day before he died. Lung and throat trouble was the cause of his death. He was 53 years of age.

The only immediate members of the family who were present were Miss Bab Gorwyn and Mrs. H.S. Engle. The other children of the deceased are Mrs. Walter Skaife, now in England Mrs. J.P. Scales, in Denver Colorado

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Episcopal church. The funeral services of G.L. Gorwyn, at the Episcopal church this afternoon were largely attended. Rev. Brooks conducted the services.

The remains were laid to rest in the El Reno cemetery beside those of his wife, who died here a few years ago. None of the absent children arrived for the funeral. Telegrams failed to reach the son and Mrs. Scales has not been heard from.”
