Wayne Allen Venable, Sr.

Wayne Allen Venable, Sr., 83, was born July 13, 1925, north of Gracemont, Oklahoma, to William L. and Myrtle C. [Harrison] Venable.

He passed from this life Thursday, January 29, 2009 at his home north of Anadarko.

Wayne attended Star School until he was ten years old, then attended Verden Schools when his family moved northeast of Verden.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army before graduation, and was given an honorary diploma. Following his discharge after the war, during which he was awarded two Purple Hearts, he enrolled in Hill's Business College in Oklahoma City through the GI Bill.

He and the former Charlotte Nowland were married on August 14, 1948 in Anadarko.

That same year, he was hired as one of the first four Insurance Adjusters for the Oklahoma Farm Bureau when it was established.

They lived in Anadarko for awhile and then moved 10 miles northeast of Anadarko and could watch Chickasha Lake being built from their kitchen window.

They built their present home in 1951 and established Char~Wayne Farms. He was a member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association, the American Angus Association, and the American Chianina Association.

He served as President of the Caddo County Farm Bureau, and was a delegate to the State Farm Bureau several times.

As a youngster, Wayne was baptized and joined Spring Creek Baptist Church. As an adult, he became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Anadarko.

Wayne had little time for hobbies, but always had time for his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents a brother, Ray Venable four sisters, Mollie McClure, Fay Carr, Charlie Mae Venable and Willie Blue and newphew Dewayne Venable.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte, of the home two sons, W.A. "Dub" Venable, Jr. and wife Gayle, and Rick Venable, all of Anadarko and his grandchildren, Cody Venable of Anadarko, Chelsea Venable of Crowley, Texas, Brent Wayne Venable of Oklahoma City, and Ashley Oswald and husband Dustin of Fort Cobb and one great-grandchild, Hayden Oswald of Fort Cobb one brother Earl Venable and wife Janet of Verden two sisters, Lena Talkington of Dallas and Thelma Powell of Lawton other relatives and many friends, including a special friend Nelda McMahan of Cyril.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 31 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Christian Fellowship, with Pastor Ted Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Lane Cemetery.

Viewing will be 9:00 A.M. until noon Saturday at Steverson Funeral Home, Anadarko.
