Raymond Meeks

Man dies in head-on collision on interstate.

A 53-year-old Cyril man died following a head-on collision Monday night on Interstate 44.

Raymond Meeks was flown to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he died due to his injuries, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The driver of the second vehicle, Issa Gakwandi, 55, of Bedford, Texas, was uninjured in the wreck..

Meeks was driving a Plymouth Voyager westbound in the eastbound lanes of the interstate when he struck an oncoming Volvo driven by Gawkandi head-on, two miles north of the U.S. 62/277 exit, according to Trooper Brad Lovelace. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts; however only Meeks' airbags deployed, according to the report.
