Velma Elizabeth [Hollman] Hollarn

Velma Elizabeth Hollarn of Cyril, Oklahoma was born July 6, 1931 in Oklahoma City to Henry Herman and Anna Edith [Dittberner] Hollman.

She passed away June 1, 2013 in Oklahoma City at the age of 81.

Velma graduated from St. Anthony School of Nursing with a diploma as a Registered Nurse.

She married Warren Adrian Hollarn, Jr. on December 5, 1952 in Oklahoma City and immediately began her 40 year Nursing career. She worked diligently for the first 20 years at Cyril Hospital and Anadarko Hospital. She then completed her next 20 years at Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha as Head Nurse of ICU/CCU. Many remember Velma as a person of high expectations as well as integrity. She retired at the age of 62 finishing her career in Surgery/Recovery.

Velma faithfully served the Lord at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Apache then at St. John Lutheran Church in Lawton.

After she retired, Velma became a tireless worker in service to her church. She was an active Choir member and found joy in serving others. She loved to cook and could often be found in the kitchen. She would spend countless hours preparing the turkey and dressing for their Community Thanksgiving meal. She was also an active member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.

Velma enjoyed sewing, quilting, working cross stitch and was a faithful Atlanta Braves fan. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by: 2 sons and their wives, Jim and Terri Hollarn of Stillwater, OK, John and Charlotte Hollarn of Tuttle, OK,1 daughter and her husband, Cathy and Don Dirickson of Edmond, OK, 6 grandchildren, Krystina and husband, Chris Phillips; Emily Hollarn; Cori and husband, Brian Beagles; Colby Dirickson; Kaley Hollarn; Jon-Michael Hollarn, 4 great-grandchildren, Cade Beagles, Mikala Beagles, Miranda Beagles, Bronson Beagles, 1 brother and his wife, Alfred and Glennita Hollman of Pauls Valley, OK, 1 sister and her husband, Marjorie and Louis Johnston of Blanchard, OK, 2 sisters-in-law, Nancy Hollman and Ruby Hollman.

She was preceded in death by:her parents, her husband, 4 brothers, Richard Hollman, Paul Hollman, Melvin Hollman, Carl Hollman.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 6th at 1:00 P.M. at St. John Lutheran Church in Lawton with Pastor Richard Mayer officiating and assisted by Pastor Mark Mozeik. A committal service will be held at 3:00 P.M. at the Celestial Gardens Cemetery in Cyril under the direction of Cyril Funeral Home. Viewing will be held at Cyril Funeral Home Monday from 1-8 P.M. and Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. There will be a viewing and greeting of the family at St. John Lutheran Church in Lawton on Thursday morning from 10:00 A.M. until 11:30 A.M and viewing will continue until the service begins at 1:00 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. John Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
