May 2009 Henry Lee "Hank" Kostzuta APACHE - Funeral for Henry "Hank" Lee Kostzuta, 80, Apache, will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Comanche Community Center, Apache, with the Rev. Monroe Tsatoke, the Rev. David Harjo, and the Rev. Tim Nestell officiating. Mr. Kostzuta died Saturday, May 2, 2009, in Lawton. Burial with military honors will be at Cache Creek KCA Cemetery, Apache under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home; escort provided by Patriot Guard Riders of Southwest Oklahoma. Pall bearers: Cheryl Stillwell, Lynnie Horse, Erick Ricker, Charlie Koassechony, Dani Koassechony, Gabriel Ricker, Terrance Lonewolf, Tiauna Ricker, Candace Lonewolf, Charles Passah Jr, Amy Dawn Passah, Curtis Kostzuta, Connie Rice. Honorary pall bearers: Wallace Coffey, Alonzo Chalepah, Lynn Jardol, Ray Doyah, Donald Komardley, Bobby Jay, Nipper Tiddark, Simon Sims, Lanny Asepermy, Amos Black, Don Clark. A prayer service will be 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the Comanche Community Center, Apache. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, at Comanche Nation Funeral Home Chapel. He was born Dec. 30, 1928, to the late Virgil Stewart and the late Mary Jack Kostzuta Doyah in Apache. He grew up in the Apache area. He enlisted in the Army Corps Jan. 17, 1946, and attained the rank of sergeant. He was a member of the 8th, 13th, and 20th Air Force. He was honorably discharged Aug. 17, 1949. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He married Wanda Coffey Sept. 16, 1948, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1953 where they lived until 1970. He was a member of the Dallas Chiefs Softball team. He then attended Police School No. 9 at the Consolidated Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Roswell, N.M., the U.S. Marshall School from May to August 1973 in Washington, D.C. He was also former Chief of Police in Apache and served as Deputy Sheriff for Caddo County in the 1970s and then moved to Civil Service work with the Bureau of Indian Affairs for Riverside Indian School from which he retired in 1994. He was inducted as a headsman into the Redbone Blackfoot Society in the early 1960s. He served as the longest serving Apache Tribal Chairman with a total of four terms, and was on the Apache Tribal Business Committee for 20 years. He was a member of the KCA Intertribal Land Use Committee, The U.S.P.H.S Lawton Indian Hospital Board and the Riverside Indian School Board. He loved to support the Apache Warriors athletic teams of which many of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were team members. He loved to ride motorcycles, go to various casinos, travel "out west", sit in his lazy boy and watch John Wayne movies. He was an OU Sooner Fan. He was known as "Grandpa" to all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, of the home; four daughters: Marilyn Kostzuta and companion, Cliff Robershaw, and Jackie Kostzuta-Ricker and husband, Don, all of Apache; Beth Giles, Fletcher; Kim Ortiz, Garland, Texas; three sons: Robert (Bobby) Kostzuta and wife, Lena, Dallas, Texas; and Lanny Asepermy and wife, Shelley, and Scott Parton, all of Apache; a brother, Ray Doyah, Anadarko; sisters: Lucille Ann, California; and Leatrice Jay, Fort Cobb; grandchildren: Cheryl Stillwell, Lynnie Horse, Marie Coronado, Charles Passah Jr., Amy Passah, Erick Ricker, Charlie Koassechony, Dani Koassechony, Gabriel Ricker, Joseph Hatfield Jr., Tiauna Ricker, Curtis Kostzuta, Connie Rice, Courtney Kostzuta, Skye Kostzuta, Dakota Kostzuta, Adrian Camarena; great-grandchildren: Terrance Lonewolf, Jennifer Passah, Josh Passah,Tara Passah, Candace Lonewolf, Chaska Ricker, Jodeci Koassechony, Lauren Horse, Devan Poolaw, Lakota Ricker, Chelsea Koassechony, Talon Ricker, Mariah Koassechony, Louis Ricker; great-great-grandchildren: Kaden Rice, Winter Garcia, Calista Chico, Henry Alan Lonewolf, Angela Lonewolf, Amadeus Kostzuta, Amaya Kostzuta, AnnaLee Kostzuta, and Baby Girl Ricker, numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death: by his parents; two sons: George Kostzuta and Mitchell K. Kostzuta; a daughter, Sandra Sue Kostzuta; a grandson, Corey Dale Kostzuta; and brothers: Ovaltine Saupitty and Roy Mitchell. |
