Services For Mrs. Simpson At Alfalfa

Funeral services for Mrs. John A. Simpson, 79 years old, were held at the Baptist church in Alfalfa Sunday afternoon and burial was made in the Alfalfa cemetery. The pastor, Rev. W.L. Magar, was assisted in the services by Rev. John Goss of Fletcher who preached the sermon and Rev. W.O. Collins, pastor of the Methodist church.

Kathren Brown was born at Callao, Mo. March 29, 1859 and departed this life April 29, 1938, aged 79 years and 1 month. She made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Will Reid of Alfalfa.

She was married to John A. Simpson at Callao, Mo. April 5, 1882. Immediately following her marriage she moved with her husband to Delta, Colo. where they resided 18 years before coming to Weatherford in 1889. From Weatherford they moved to Alfalfa in March 1907. To this union were born seven children, two of whom died in childhood. A daughter, Mrs. A. Solloway, died January 28, 1930. Mr. Simpson died January 2, 1914.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Reid and Dr. Elizabeth Harland, Kansas City, Mo.; two sons, J.W. and C,.R. Simpson of Alfalfa; two brothers, Sill Brown of Alfalfa and J.W. Brown, Callao, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. E.R. Barton, Liberty, Mo., and nine grandchildren.

She was converted at the age of 14 years and united with the Eanon Baptist church at Callao. She was a charter member of two Baptist churches, one at Delta, Colo. which was organized in her home. At the time of her death she was a member of the Alfalfa Baptist church, and prior to an accident two years ago she was active in church work.

George T. Simpson
December 3, 1862 ~ October 26, 1936


Geo. T. Simpson Dies

Geo. T. Simpson, farmer living ten miles east of Alfalfa, died at his home October 28 after an illness of about two years.

Interment was made in the Alfalfa cemetery with Rev. D.A. Graves, pastor of the Baptist church, in charge of services at the grave.

Mr. Simpson was born in Indiana December 3, 1862 and was 74 years, 10 months and 24 days of age at the time of his death.

His wife and one daughter preceded him in death.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, a brother, a half-brother and two half-sisters. His brother, Jasper Simpson of Arlington, Kans. attended the funeral.

Charles Ruben Simpson

C.R. Simpson Rites Were Saturday P.M. In Alfalfa Church

C.R. Simpson died at 1 p.m. Thursday at his home two miles north of Alfalfa after suffering from a heart ailment 2 ½ years. His condition had been serious since December of last year when he suffered an attack.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Baptist church of Alfalfa. Rev. Clayborn Deering, pastor of the Exchange Avenue Baptist church in Oklahoma City and former pastor at Alfalfa, preached the sermon. He was assisted by Rev. Gerald Squyres, pastor. Burial was in the Alfalfa cemetery.

Charles Reuben Simpson was born August 19, 1896, at Delta, Colo. When he was 12 years old his parents moved to the Alfalfa community where he has lived and farmed all of his life.

He was married to Bertha Ticer May 24, 1921.

He was converted and baptized at an early age.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Bertha Simpson of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Payne and Mrs. Norma Lee Hamilton, Oklahoma City; three sons, Ernest and John of the home and Charles, Carnegie; one brother, J.W. Simpson, Alfalfa, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Reid and Mrs. Ed Coleman, Los Angeles. Also surviving are five grandchildren.

Friends and relatives other than the immediate family here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Anderson and Ralph and Mr. and Mrs. Don Anderson of Yukon; Mr. and Mrs. Orville Denning, Mr. and Mrs. Riley Worthen and Mrs. Deering, Oklahoma City; Miss Willa Dean Simpson, Kansas City; Max Simpson and Mrs. Border of Borger, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Early, Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Ernest Monroe Simpson
March 9, 1924 ~ November 13, 2008


Ernest Monroe Simpson, age 84, died early Thursday morning, November 13, 2008, at Integris Grove General Hospital in Grove, Oklahoma.

Ernest was born on March 9, 1924, in Alfalfa, Oklahoma, to Charles Ruben and Bertha Jane [Ticer] Simpson.

Ernest served as a civilian in the Airborne Coordinating Group.

Ernest, grew up working on his parents' farm in Alfalfa, after attending some college he went to California where he worked.

He returned to Oklahoma and married Irene Francis Sharry on September 12, 1945. He and his wife moved back to California where he worked at the Alameda Naval Station. Here two of his children were born.

The couple returned to Oklahoma and soon Ernest had his own business Simpson TV & Appliance in Ft. Cobb. He spent two years in Utah working at Hill Air Force Base then returned to Oklahoma again to teach electronics at the Vo-tech school in Ft. Cobb. He left there to open a new store, Simpson TV & Appliance in Norman. His final job before retirement was as the first Director of Handicap Concerns for the State of Oklahoma

Ernest was very active both physically and politically, he routinely walked eight miles with his white cane until he broke his hip. Upon recovery he was forced to walk only six miles and had to add an extra cane. He enjoyed listening to the news and sports. Ernest was very active with the local group for the visually impaired, and worked in at the Help Center.

Ernest was the "King" of the 2007 Pelican Festival of Grove and a long time member of First United Methodist Church of Grove.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene Simpson, and four siblings Charles Simpson, John Simpson, Kay Payne and Norma Hamilton.

He is survived by his best friend Vernice Eck, his three children - Galen P. Simpson and wife Lori Roberts of Roy, Utah, Dee Lawson and husband Tim McDaniel of Grove, Oklahoma, and Marcia Shoemaker of Tulsa, Oklahoma, eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 17, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Randy Hamill officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Alfalfa Cemetery in Alfalfa, Oklahoma.

Verla Mae [Daws] Simpson
August 27, 1941 ~ Verla Mae Simpson went to be with her Heavenly father on Friday, November 1, 2019


Verla Mae Simpson went to be with her Heavenly father on Friday, November 1, 2019 at the age of 78. The daughter of Verla Mae [Meeks] and Lee Martin Daws, Sr., she was born on August 27, 1941 in Frederick, Oklahoma.

Verla grew up in the Military and went to school in many places including California, Alaska and Hawaii.

Verla continued her education at Bethany Nazarene College.

On October 3, 1964, she married her sweetheart, John Avington Simpson and together shared more than twenty nine years of marriage.

This union of marriage was blessed with a daughter, Reesa and son, Randall.

In addition to being a loving wife, devoted mother and dedicated homemaker, Verla also worked as a typist for the Oklahoma Tax Commission for many years and retired from there.

Verla was very passionate about caring for her backyard, which was full of roses. She was a longtime member of the Oklahoma Rose Society. She also loved to cook and sew in her spare time, but nothing was as important as being with her family whom she loved with all of her heart. She loved and cared deeply for her family and she will be held close to our hearts each day.

She was preceded in death by her:
• Parents; Lee Martin and Verla Mae Daws, Sr.
• Husband, John Avington Simpson

She leaves behind her loving family:
• Daughter, Reesa Wilson and her husband, John
• Son, Randall Simpson
• Brother, Lee Martin Daws, Jr.
• Granddaughter, Brooke Wilson
• Many other extended family & friends
