June 21, 1942 ~ November 19, 2022

Betty Payne of Silo, Oklahoma departed this life on November 19, 2022. She was born on June 21, 1942 in Seminole, Oklahoma to George and Evelyn (Dyer) Pena. Betty was a graduate of Durant High School, and she later the love of her life Donald Payne on September 30, 1960 in Atoka, Oklahoma.

Betty worked at JC Potters, Moore’s Processing Plant, and Alliance Healthcare Durant in the housekeeping department. She taught Sunday School at the First Nazarene Church for 14 years. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, and she loved reading and writing down prayers in her Bible. Betty was known for being ornery and voicing her opinion about everything. This was one of many reasons she was so well loved. She was also very sweet and caring and would give you the shirt off her back. Betty loved driving her car and when her favorite store, Stage, went out of business, she moved to the Dollar Tree. She loved animals and raised AKC dogs. Betty also loved clowns, Elvis, and Betty Boop, as well as reading romance novels. She loved her sweets too and would double her insulin just to eat them. What Betty most loved was her family. She was very family oriented and was the puzzle piece that fit everyone together. She loved her children, but especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved talking about them. They could do no wrong, and she lit up as soon as they were mentioned.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons David Payne and wife Christy of Cobb and Billy Payne of Durant; her daughters Debra Hoover and Donna Barber-Boydston and husband TJ both of Durant; ex-son-in-law Ronnie Harrell of Lindsay, and her sister-in-law and best friend Linda Pena of Calera. Her legacy lives on with her grandchildren Chris Barber and wife Amber, Crystal Shaw and husband Derick, Jennifer Harrell and partner Whitley, Jessica Loudermilk and husband Brandon, Brodie Payne and Aci Payne, as well as her great-grandchildren Adyson Barber, Blaklyn Barber, Camdon Cooper, Kenedi Cooper, Braxton Loudermilk, and Brayley Powell and Landrey Powell.

Preceding her in death are her parents George and Evelyn Pena, her loving husband Don Payne, daughter Betty Ruth Payne, brother Johnny Pena, and son-in-law Robert Hoover.

A funeral service is set for 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 25, 2022 at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Anthony Williams officiating. Betty will be laid to rest at Restland Cemetery in Silo following the service.

Those serving as pallbearers are Ronnie Harrell, Brandon Loudermilk, Chris Barber, and Camdon Cooper. Braxton Loudermilk, Brodie Payne and Aci Payne will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Services are under the direction of Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home, 121 North 5th Street, Durant, Oklahoma 74701. www.holmescoffeymurray.com
