Mahotta LaNell Wynn

Mahotta LaNell Wynn, 73, of Achille, Okla., passed away Thursday evening, Nov. 27, 2008, at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant. She was born Oct. 20, 1935, in Borger, Texas, and was the daughter of the late LaRoy and Nell Mae Brown.
She married James Monroe Wynn in July 22, 1953.
She had a dual Master's degree in special education and speech pathology. Her college career started at Murray State College in Tishomingo and she then attended the University Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha. She received her speech pathology degree from East Central State University in Ada and her Master's degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant.
She taught at Jane Brooks School for the deaf in Chickasha from 1970-1978 and taught special education for the Colbert schools from 1978-1995.
After retirement, she took special care of her father, LaRoy, after his health failed. She loved her teaching career and babysitting her granddaughter Lydia.
She was a longtime member of the Prairie View Baptist Church and enjoyed the fellowship with the ladies in the Sunday school class for many years. She was an avid reader and lived in Bryan County the past 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wynn, in April of 1964 and her daughter Rebecca Rae Wynn in October of 1964.
She is survived by three sons, James Thomas Wynn of Achille, Okla., William Randall Wynn and wife Lisa Ann of Colbert, Okla., and Lloyd Calvin Wynn and wife Amy Renee of Sherman, Texas; five grandchildren, Rebecca Babb of Kingsville, Texas, Jordyn Wynn of Midlothian, Texas, Lydia Leonor Wynn of Colbert, Okla., and Paige and Bailey Roush, both of Sherman, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Anthony Babb of Sherman, Texas, and Savannah and Sierra Babb, both of Kingsville, Texas.
Funeral services for LaNell Wynn will be at 2 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at the Prairie View Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Parrish officiating.
Burial will follow in the Rosewood Cemetery in Achille.
Pallbearers will be James Wynn, William Wynn, Lloyd Wynn, Eddie Cranford, Steve Wingfield and Tommy Bowen.
Honorary pallbearers will be H. F. Bird, James Templeton, Dennis Smith and James Coble.
Family hours will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Cunningham Funeral in Colbert.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Cunningham Funeral Home in Colbert, Okla.
