Lester Ames

Lester Ames a resident of Calera, Oklahoma passed away to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday February 17, 2019 in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 90. Lester was born to Henry and Effie Ames on September 29, 1928 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Lester joined the United States Army right out of high school.

After leaving the Army, Lester started Pastoring for Assembly of God from 1951-1998 where he retired. On November 1, 1981 he married his wife Louise Ames in Calera, Oklahoma. Lester also was a carpenter who enjoyed doing construction. He liked hunting, fishing, and playing golf in his spare time. He also enjoyed playing games with his family.

Pastor Lester Ames is survived by his wife Louise Ames of the home. Sons: Jimmy Ames and wife Anita of Branson, Missouri, Steve Ames and wife Angie of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, and Michael Tucker of Calera, Oklahoma. Daughter, Tina Bounds and husband Mark of Gunter, Texas. Grandchildren: Michell Ames of Branson, Missouri, Trista Fongemie of Branson, Missouri, Jenny Ames of Anchorage, Alaska, Beau Ames of Lee Summit, Missouri, Chris Privett of Norman, Oklahoma, Rachael Privett of Norman, Oklahoma. Kourtney Davis of Durant, Oklahoma, Taylor Tucker of Calera, Oklahoma, Brook Tucker of Calera, Oklahoma, Skyler Tucker of Calera, Oklahoma, Joe Tucker of Calera, Oklahoma, Dakota Adams of Silo, Oklahoma, Sam Shoemake of Calera, Oklahoma, Tabby Rojas of Calera, Oklahoma, Cameron Hearn of Huntsville, Texas, and Legend Bounds of Gunter, Texas. There are 19 Great-grandchildren. Brothers: JC Ames of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Harold Ames of Bethel Acres, Oklahoma.

Lester Ames is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Effie Ames. Son, Donald Ames. Grandchild Shea Ames. Also brother Arthur Ames, Lee Roy Ames, and Henry Ames Jr.

Family hour for Lester Ames will be from 6-8pm on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. Celebration of Lester’s life will be at 1:30pm at Victory Life Center in Durant, Oklahoma on Friday, February 22, 2019, with Brother David Sanders. Burial will be at Rosewood Cemetery in Achille, Oklahoma with Cameron Hearn, Sam Shoemake, Dakota Adams, Beau Ames, Jack Ames and Buster Watson serving as pallbearers.
