A celebration of life for Millie Miller Garrett, 84, of Durant, who went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 27, 2009, was held at 2:00 p.m. today at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel. Rev. James Robinson and Bro. Bill Long officiated.

Millie was born February 16, 1925, in Browndell, Texas, to Ruben and Bessie Wood Miller and raised by Lee and Addie Gary.

She attended school at Browndell Public School and Stephen F. Austin University.

She married Richard K. Garrett on January 21, 1946, in Texarkana, Arkansas.

She worked as a nurse working at Calera, Four Seasons and Oakridge Nursing Centers.

She was installed as a member of the Order of Eastern Star Calera Chapter 490 in 1968 and served as Worthy Matron in 1993 and was a member of the Democratic Women of Oklahoma.

She dearly loved the Lord and was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in Durant.

She enjoyed watching hummingbirds and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Millie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard K. Garrett; children, Jack Garrett, Glenda Bolton and Betty Watson; brothers, Lester Miller and Vester Miller and sisters, Elvie Box, Yvonne DuBose and Ruby Miller.

Those left to cherish her memory are children, Nancy Watts and husband John of West, Texas, Kathryn Gwinn and husband Duane White of Allen, Texas, Jim Garrett of Kilgore, Texas, Dianne Moody of Durant, Oklahoma and Jerry Garrett and fiancé Becky Melchor of Durant, Oklahoma; brother, Edgar Miller of Hull, Texas; grandchildren, Glenn, Gerald and Larry Bolton and families, Dedra Fischer and husband Matt, Carla Staas and husband Mike, Chandra Taylor and husband Gary, Jeff Crawford, Zach Crabtree and wife Valerie, Stephanie Crawford and fiancé Chris Harris, Courtney Hemsley, Tessa Hall and husband Chris, J. K. Moody and wife Kenna, Casey Garrett and James Melchor ; great grandchildren, Kasia Redden, Kelli Richardson, Coey and Summer Taylor, Cole and Cami Crawford, Gracie and Ava Crabtree, Zairyn Hemsley, Hailey and Danika Hall and Mattux and Makenley Moody; and many other relatives and a host of dear and loved friends.

Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Calera with Jeff Crawford, Zach Crabtree, J. K. Moody, Casey Garrett, Chris Hall, Roy Crawford, Duane White and Robert Clay serving as pallbearers.
