James Edward Emerson of Durant passed away on Friday, November 28, 2014 at his home at the age of 68. He was born March 6, 1946 in Morrillton, Arkansas to Bill Almon Emerson and Pearl Ruth Graham Emerson.

James graduated from M.B. Smiley High School.

He married Wanda Ruth Shults in Humble, Texas on June 7, 1971.

James worked as a mail carrier, fishing was his favorite past time along with buying things that needed to be repaired, such as lawn mowers and tillers so he could fix them up.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Wanda Emerson, brother, George Emerson and grandson, Dustin Shrum.

James is survived by his sister, Belinda Gibson of Austin, Texas, seven children, Donnie Alexander of Durant, Chris Alexander and wife Reta of Durant, Kimberly Layton and husband John of Maysville, Oklahoma, Linda Mitchell and husband Greg of Durant, Pamela Emerson and husband Timothy Christopher of Durant, James Emerson of Durant and Lesley Arnold of Durant, twenty grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2014 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera.

Family hour will be 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2014 at Brown's Funeral Service, Durant.
