Services for Ruthie Dora Speer, 101, long time Bryan County resident, will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the Holmes Coffey Murray Chapel with Carl Hamilton, Brian Jagielski and Lorraine Lerwick officiating. A family hour will be held before the service from 1-2:00 PM in the chapel. Burial will follow at Old Church Cemetery, north of Bennington. She passed away Saturday, September 17th in Sherman, TX.

Ruthie was born in Ramer, TN on June 22, 1915 to the late Preston and Minnie Furtick. She was married on June 18, 1933 to Truman Mason Speer in Caddo, OK. They lived in the Bennington area for many years before moving to Durant. Ruthie moved to Texas in the early 1990s.

Preceding her in death are her husband, her parents, her son Delmar, grandson Jay Worthy, granddaughter Sharon Speer, brothers Eddie Furtick and Eugene Furtick, and sister Annie Faulkner.

Survivors include two daughters, Anna June Worthy Benson of Oxford, MS and Deborah Smallwood of Hawkins, TX, eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and many friends.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons.
