Willis “Ray” Webster departed this life on October 3, 2008 in Durant. He was born May 11, 1928 at Stillwell, Ok. to William “Bill” and Kate Fields (biological parents) and after the death of his mother he was adopted by J. E. “Sam” and Winona Doyne Webster. He lived in Kingfisher, Ok., Anadarko, Ok. and Durant, Ok. He was married to Leta Fern Palmer (Coffey) Sept. 19, 1952 in Okla. City, Okla. They have three children, Terrell Coffey (Carol) of Hinton, Ok., Connie Moore (Robert) of Edmond, Ok., and Tim Webster (Leslie) of Durant. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Chris Coffey (Lesa); Lance Coffey; Jami Moore Majors (Tom); Staci Moore Bornyack (Zach); Ashli Moore Anderson (Chris): Kerry Webster Collins (Paul) and Brody Webster. Also surviving are 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Bob Fields (Kim) and Ben Fields (Rusty) and sisters Roberta Simmons (Roy), Jean Jennings (Chester), and Hallie Fields. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his biological parents, adoptive parents, one brother, and two sisters.
He and his wife were co-owners of Webster’s Junior Fashions in Durant for 20 years. He was also an insurance agent and retired from the Bryan County Assessor’s Office. While living in Anadarko, he was involved in many activities. He belonged to First Presbyterian Church and was Financial Secretary, served on the Anadarko School Board many years as clerk, was active in Lions Club, and Chamber of Commerce. He served as a Scout Master for many years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Durant and had served as a Deacon. Ray was a 32nd degree Mason.
He loved the outdoors, enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, was an avid reader, music lover, and loved to RV and travel as long as health would permit. He enjoyed visiting and drinking coffee with friends. He will be remembered for his cheerful spirit, optimism, and kindness. His love of life will be missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Durant on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Durant.
