Dorothy Scott Silver was born April 28, 1920, in San Mateo, Calif., to C. Emlen and Grace Lunt (Comings) Scott. She passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008 in Durant at the age of 88 years.

Dorothy came to Oklahoma in June of 1947 from West Lafayette, Indiana. Dorothy married Wayne H. Silver on July 9, 1944, in Flossmoor, Ill. She attended University High School in Oakland, Calif., Stanford University and Mills College. She was a professor at SOSU from 1972-1986 and was a campfire girls executive and private kindergarten day care trainer.

Dorothy was a member of AAUW, Stanford Alumni Association, and Rebeeka Club, First Christian Church. She was also a member of the First Christian-Disciples of Christ Church. Her hobbies included voluntary work, Scrabble and volunteering at the SOSU children's workshops.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers George, Orrin and Robert Scott.

She is survived by daughter Carol Grace Darby and husband Cecil of Abilene, Texas; son Brian E. Silver and wife Kay of Calera; sister Betty McDonald of Camden, Del.; grandson David Buchanan and wife Malissa of Durant; granddaughter Staci Turner and husband James of Calera; great-grandson Blake Buchanan of Durant; great-grandson Slader Turner of Calera; great-grandson Ean Turner of Calera; and great-granddaughter Alicea Turner of Calera.

A memorial service for Dorothy Scott Silver will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Durant. Rev. Jon Goeringer will be officiating.
