Juanita Mae Estes, 88, a life-long resident of Durant, passed away on Monday afternoon at the hospital in Durant.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel in Durant.
Juanita was born on Jan. 13, 1920, in Durant to John O. and Susie (Thompson) Dunn. She graduated from Durant High School and married Haskell Estes on May 15, 1937, in Atoka. She was an instructor for the Choctaw Nation, teaching arts and crafts, and a member of the Achille Baptist Church. Some of Juanita's hobbies included being a leader for the Campfire Girls, Indian dance, and arts and crafts. Juanita loved Choctaw Pow-Wow.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband Haskell; her parents; son Johnny Ray; and daughter Charlotte May.
Juanita is survived by her three daughters, Mary Sue Hess of Arlington, Texas, Melba Sheller of Durant, and Linda Roberts of Durant; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p. m.
