JOHN I. CUMMINGS
Oct. 5, 1924 - Nov. 28, 2004
Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 2, 2004, 2:30 p.m. at
Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park & Mortuary, 2739 Panama Ln.
John was born October 5, 1924 in Bokchito, Oklahoma. He enlisted in the Army
in 1942. He survived as a German POW and was awarded the Purple Heart.
After the war, he and his wife, Aline, moved to California and ultimately started
their own trucking and construction company. They were in business
twenty-eight years. John committed his life to Christ and became a minister in 1962.
He had a deep faith in the Lord and led many to Christ. When they retired,
they traveled in their motorhome and enjoyed many fun years together. Returning
to Bakersfield, retirement did not suit him. Ever the entrepreneur, he became
known to his customers as "Farmer John." He sold produce to many employees
at local firms. A few years after Aline's death, he reconnected with a
childhood sweetheart, Rachel Jenkins. She brought love and happiness back into his
life. They married in 2001 and lived in Colbert, Oklahoma. The last years
were spent renewing childhood friendships, fishing on Lake Texoma, and having fun.
John was a man with a big heart, always helping those in need. He had a gift
of gab and a sense of humor that won him many friends. He loved his family
above all things and continued to look after his kids after they were grown.
His laughter, songs and jokes will always be with us and we will always
treasure our times with him and that God blessed us with him as our Dad. We'll hold
you in our hearts till we can hold you in our arms. We love you Dad.
John is survived by his loving wife, Rachel; sons, Phillip and Ben:
daughters, Donna and husband, Randy, Lorrie and husband, David; six grandchildren,
Diana, Allison, Katelyn, Darla, Rick and Cori.
