Funeral services will be held Thursday at Dalton-Holmes Chapel in Durant at 2:00 p.m., for Richard Caldwell Mazzone, 66, who passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010.

The son of Louis Richard and June Dorothea Caldwell Mazzone, Richard was born on Tuesday, March 7, 1944, in San Jose, California.

He was preceded in death by both.

He was raised in Almaden Valley, California where his father owned a prune and apricot orchard. He loved the foothills and spent many hours riding his horse there.

Richard graduated from Pioneer High School and attended San Jose State College in San Jose. He was drafted into the Army in 1965 and served during the Vietnam Era with an honorable discharge.

On May 7, 1965, he married Sandra Smith in Carson City, Nevada.

He worked for many years as a forklift driver for Dole Cannery before moving to Oklahoma.

Richard coached T-ball and little league for several years and all the players were his boys. He volunteered at Fort Washita and served as assistant Boy Scout Leader.

He was active in the DAV and received an Outstanding Community Achievement of Vietnam Era Veterans from President Jimmy Carter in 1979.

He attended the First United Methodist Church before his health kept him from attending. He loved his family and enjoyed being with them.

Survivors include wife, Sandra Mazzone of the home; daughter, Karen Mazzone Boyer and husband Rob, of Norman, Oklahoma; son, Richard Louis Mazzone and wife Leigh-Anna, of Durant, Oklahoma; sister, Gayle Marte Mazzone, of San Jose, California; grandchildren, Blake Boyer, Kaylee Boyer both of Norman, Oklahoma; Richard Kale Mazzone of Durant, Oklahoma; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Durant.

Longtime friend of the family Glendel Rushing will officiate. Serving as pallbearers include Larry Marcy, Jeff Allen, Rush Smith, Jeremy Brewster, Chad Watkins, Stacy Watkins, Ricky Nix and Rob Boyer.
