Neva Jo Barrett Kitchens of Mead, Oklahoma passed from this earthly life in Durant, Oklahoma on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the age of 77 years, 5 months and 22 days.

She was born in Durant, Oklahoma to Everett and Bernice Mercer Barrett on Monday, August 24, 1936.

Neva Jo married Harold Kitchens in Gainesville, Texas on Tuesday, March 4, 1980 and they loved each other dearly.

She had a beautiful smile that would light up a room when she entered.

She was a member of the Baptist faith.

She enjoyed life and had an abundance of hobbies and things she did for fun like gardening, caring for her animals, collecting elephants and shopping.

Neva Jo was an excellent cook who loved to collect recipes and cookbooks. She loved her life in the country with her husband looking at the landscape. But the important thing to "Granny Neva" as she was lovingly referred to by her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her family she considered them her greatest blessing.

Mrs. Kitchens is survived by her husband, Harold of the home; son, Gerry Eddins of Mead, Oklahoma; daughters, Dena Kitchens of Durant, Oklahoma and Karen Starnes and husband Ron of Durant, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Letisha Eddins of Mead, Oklahoma, Amanda Burk of Durant, Oklahoma, John Cortney Ross of Basel, Switzerland, Dallas Brown of Corpus Christie, Texas, Brook Brown of Durant, Oklahoma, Andy Whitehurst and wife Ashley of Waxahatchie, Texas and Clint Whitehurst of Durant, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Devlan Burk of Durant, Oklahoma, Joshua Burk of Durant, Oklahoma, Shelby Whitehurst of McAlester, Oklahoma, Emma Whitehurst of Antlers, Oklahoma, Carter Whitehurst of Antlers, Oklahoma, Conner Whitehurst of Antlers, Oklahoma and Ainsley Whitehurst of Waxahatchie, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Kitchens was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Bernice Barrett.

Family hour will be from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma.

A funeral service in her memory will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Holmes Coffey Murray Chapel with Bro. Tommy Green officiating.

Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma. Serving as pallbearers will be Andy Whitehurst, Clint Whitehurst, Jason Lowry, Stanley St Clair, Andy Byrd, Joe Carnard and Rick Edwards.
