Joyce Ann Gilbert a resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life into the arms of her Savior on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the age of 77 years 2 months and 12 days. She was born on August 18, 1937 in Bee, Oklahoma to Sherman M. and Atha Dee (Ballard) Thomas.
Joyce was a very loving mother. She always enjoyed cooking for her family. Joyce also loved to sew, and had a green thumb with her house plants. She attended grade school in Nida, Oklahoma then moved to Durant and graduated from Durant High School in 1954. Joyce married W.A. Gilbert on June 20,1958. Joyce was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She was a giving person and was always willing to help anyone.
Joyce is survived by a sister, Beulah Tomlinson of Tomball, Texas; two children- Murray Gilbert and wife Misty of Piedmont, Oklahoma and daughter, Denita Bennett and husband, Tim of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren -Brandon Gilbert, Corey Gilbert and wife Erica , Kellie Bruner and husband Ricky , Jake and Allee Bennett; and one great granddaughter, Tatum Gilbert; the father of her children, W.A. Gilbert of Durant.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman M. and Atha Dee Thomas; siblings, J.B. Thomas, George Thomas, Imogene Autry, Kenneth Thomas, S.M. Thomas, Jr., Harrison Thomas and Orlene Hunter.
The family respectfully request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Susan G. Koman Foundation for Breast Cancer Research, 115 Park Ave., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73102.
Family Hour will be from 7-8:00 PM Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home. A service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Holmes Coffey Murray Chapel with Bro. Darel Bunch officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Brandon Gilbert, Corey Gilbert, Jake Bennett, Tim Bennett, Marty Hunter and Dale Hunter. The honorary pallbearers will be Jamie Thomas and Eric Bow.
