Harold William Fite

Funeral Services for Harold William Fite, 91, of Durant, will be Wednesday July 16, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Calvary Baptist Church in Durant. Harold passed away Saturday July 12, 2008 in Durant. Harold was born November 21, 1916 in Coleman, Oklahoma to Berry Clay & Mamie Lou (Harris) Fite. He came to Durant in 1935 from Twelve Mile Prairie.

Harold owned and operated Fite’s Handy Food Mart, Fite’s Laundry, and Fite’s Trailer Park. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and Durant City Council. He was a Calvary Baptist Church Deacon, Prominent Durant Business man, member of the Bryan County Excise Board, a Rancher, and a member of the VFW. He enjoyed gardening and camping. Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, EAME Service Ribbon, and one Silver Service Star.

He married Lona Mae (Anderson) on March 29, 1941 in Emet, Oklahoma.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lona Mae; brother, Marion Fite; sister, Bess Armstrong; brother-in-law, Vincent Armstrong. Survivors include: his son Larry Fite of Durant; daughter, Judy Oliger & Mark of Blanchard, OK; grandson, Justin Fite of Caddo; granddaughters, Lacey Wade & husband Kyle of Blanchard, OK; Alison Oliger of Blanchard, OK; Chada Boone of Frederick, Maryland; great granddaughter, Kyley Mae Wade of Blanchard, OK; sister-in-law, Mary Ayers & husband Jerry of Durant; brother-in-law, Richard Anderson & wife Opal of Durant; sister-in-law, Bobby Crim & husband Max; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Durant. Mr. Skip Robinson and Rev. Dale Ballard will officiate. Justin Fite, Kyle Wade, Jerry Ayers, Mark Oliger, James Lynn, and Danny Whitley will be serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 15, 2008 from 6-8 PM at Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home.
