Charles Edward Farmer

August 16, 1921 - - January 24, 2004

A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church for Charles E. "Chuck" Farmer, 82, Durant, who died Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Texoma Medical Center, Denison, Texas. The Rev. James Robinson will officiate.

He was born Tuesday, August 16, 1921, in Kellyville, to Robert W. and Hilda O. Tiede Farmer.

He was raised in Oklahoma, then went to California and joined the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1942-1947, recalled in 1951, during the Korean Conflict to serve in U.S. Army Special Services from 1951-1957.

He married Mildred K. "Meg" Davis May 10, 1942, in Long Beach, California and established a home in California for 52 years. He returned to Durant in 1993.

He served as Boys Club Director for several years in southern California. After retiring from Boys Club, he was self-employed for several years in the heating and air conditioning business.

He was a member of the Rotary Club of Hollywood, California, president of the Methodist Men's Club, Orangethorpe, California and a member of the Boys Clubs of America Professional Association. Upon returning to Oklahoma, he was a volunteer at Washington Irving Elementary School, where he was affectionately known as "Grandpa."

He was a member of Orangethorpe Methodist Church in Fullerton, California.

He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, but his favorite hobby was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John W. Farmer and sister, Edna Kingsland.

He is survived by his wife of the home; daughter, Linda Tomlinson and husband Jerry of Durant; son, Charles E. Farmer Jr. of Corona, California, grandchildren, Michelle Breeden and husband George, Kim White and husband Billy, Tracey Caraway and husband John, and Tyler Tomlinson, all of Durant, Eric and Amy Farmer, both of Corona; and great-grandchildren Josh and Megan Breeden, Bo, Max and Nick White, Travis, Cheyenne and Katie Caraway, all of Durant.
