Joe W. Chesnut was born January 21, 1935 in Roberta, Oklahoma to Austin M. and Mamie C. Boatner Chesnut and passed from this life on March 15, 2014 in Denison, Texas at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 22 days.

Joe attended school at Old Allison and graduated from Achille High School.

He married Phyllis Widener on June 17, 1954 and they were blessed with 47 years until her death in 2001.

Joe worked as a heavy equipment operator all his life and retired from Bryan County. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason and was a member of the Achille Lodge and long time and active member of the Mead Baptist Church.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, camping and spending time with his beloved family.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Austin M. and Mamie C. Chesnut and wife, Phyllis Chesnut.

Joe is survived by his sons, Earl Scott Chesnut of Portland, Oregon, Robert Keith Chesnut of Calera, Jerry Austin Chesnut of Calera and Clifford Peacock and wife Cindy of Calera; sisters, Margie Lynch and husband Adriean of Coolidge, Texas, Rita Mangrum and husband Elmer of San Jose, California and Latralle Thompson and husband Russell of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren, Marila Miller and husband Monte, Krista Lawson and husband Kodi, Robby Chesnut and wife Charity, Shaun Chesnut, Wesley Pebsworth and wife Kristin and Spencer Peacock; seve great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18 at Mead Baptist Church. Bro. Kerry Groce and Bro. Charles Loyd will officiate.

Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery with Robby Chesnut, Shaun Chesnut, Spencer Peacock, Wesley Pebsworth, Stuart Thompson and Mark Ward serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Carlton and Kenny Ward.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
