William Eugene Carpenter, 77, of Durant passed away Sunday evening at the hospital in Durant. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at 2:00 pm at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel, Durant. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery in Durant.

Eugene Carpenter was born March 9, 1931, in Lane, Oklahoma to William Benjamine Carpenter and Era Bell Winters Brown.

He married Edna Earl Mauldin in 1949 in Honey Grove, Texas.

He moved to Bryan County in 1985 from Dallas, Texas.

He worked in maintenance and enjoyed piddling and fixing things, especially lawn mowers and spending money; he loved going to the grocery store.

Eugene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Era Brown and step-father, Robert Brown and his father, William Carpenter.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Edna, of the home; sons, Dan Carpenter and wife Kathy of Durant, Ben Carpenter and wife Gina of Alabama, and Jack Carpenter and wife Cathy of Durant; daughter, Faith Hollis and husband Joe of Durant; brother Dwain Carpenter and wife Marilyn of Sulphur, Oklahoma; uncle, Herschell Winters of Lane, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

Eugene's grandchildren will be pallbearers at his service; Dustin Carpenter, Corey Carpenter, Jamie Carpenter, Josh Carpenter, Christopher Hollis, Jimmy Pepperman, Heather Hollis and Erika Downs.

Family hour will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Brown's Funeral Chapel.
